Thistles are any plants, usually <a href="/w/weed">weeds</a>, that have <a href="/t/thorn">thorny</a> leaves. Thistles often have thorns all over them, on the stems and flowers too. The thistle in the picture is the national flower of Scotland, scientific name <i>onopordum acanthium</i>.
