Hedgehogs are a small mammal found in Europe, Asia and Africa, and they have been introduced to New Zealand. Hedgehogs are covered in sharp spines, and are often confused with the porcupine or echidna.
Hedgehogs sleep during the day and come out at night to eat. They eat mostly insects but will also eat frogs, eggs, dead animals, mushrooms and some fruit and berries.
