Something is transparent if you can see through it. Glass in windows is transparent. The lenses of sunglasses are transparent. If you can see through something but it changes the color of everything you see, that something is still transparent but it is tinted. Filter lenses for cameras are often tinted. The glasswing butterfly in the picture has transparent wings. The opposite of transparent is opaque. Something that lets light through but you can't easily see through it is translucent.
