Rattan is a type of palm tree that grows like a vine. It grows very fast, and can grow up to a hundred metres long. Rattan is harvested mainly to make cane furniture from. It can be split into wicker for making woven furniture. Rattan is also used to make canes for whipping people as punishment in some countries.
A snowman is just a man made out of snow. You can also make a snowwoman, snowchildren, snowcats or snowdogs. Or in fact anything you want!

When you go out in the sun, you can get sunburnt. Pale skin is more likely to burn than dark skin. Your skin tries to protect itself from the sun by producing melanin, which makes your skin darker. We call this a suntan. The people in the picture have darker skin where the sun has been shining on their skin, and paler skin where it was protected by their shoes.
Tartan is a fabric pattern made by weaving different colours together in stripes in both directions. The stripes can be different widths, and there can be lots of different colours, unlike gingham which is made from two colours with equal width stripes.
In Scotland, different families had their own unique tartan pattern.
Toucans are a family of birds from the semi-tropical areas of the Caribbean, South America, and southern Mexico. They range in size from about 1 foot (30cm) to 2 foot (60cm) long. Toucans have an extremely large bill, which they use for eating fruit.
