The giant panda is a large, black and white animal native to China. It is a kind of bear. Pandas can weigh around 100kg. Pandas eat almost entirely bamboo, but will sometimes eat fish or eggs if they find them.

A parasite is something that takes what it needs from a host. Parasites can be plants, insects, viruses or animals. The one feature they all share is that they either live on in their host, and damage the host to some degree for their own benefit.
Fleas are the parasite that most people are familiar with. The parasite in the photo is mistletoe.

Parrots are one of the most intelligent birds. They can learn to say a few hundred words and make excellent pets. They originally come from the warmer areas of the world and are usually found in forests. They eat seeds, nuts and fruit. The can live for a long time, with the larger parrots sometimes living to 80 years old.

A peacock is a male peafowl. Female peafowls are called peahens. Peafowl are a type of pheasant, and they usually live on the ground in forests. Peacocks have spectacular tail feathers.

Penguins are birds that live in the sea in the southern half of the world. There are many different kinds of penguin. They are excellent swimmers and are well-adapted to cold water. They eat fish and other small sea animals. Penguins cannot fly - their wings are used as flippers when they are swimming. Some people think penguins look like they are wearing a tuxedo.
