Something has been shot, if it was damaged by someone shooting at it. The glass in the picture has been shot, and has a bullet hole in it. Shot is the past tense of shoot.

Sis forSmear

A smear is a smudge of something oily, for example you might smear some butter on your toast. It could also mean any mark or stain that looks like an oily smear. The woman in the picture has smeared lipstick.

A smudge is a place where something clean or sharply drawn has been wiped with something and it has been blurred.

Sis forStain

A stain is a mark made on something that is very difficult to remove. Sometimes stains are accidental, like the ink stain on the clothes in the picture, and sometimes stains are put on something to change the color on purpose. Cheap, light colored wood like pine is often stained to look like a darker, more expensive wood.

Tis forTear

You tear something when you pull it in two different directions at the same time until it breaks in a line. When you tear paper it leaves a rough edge. Another word for tear is rip.

Something is torn if it has been damaged by ripping or tearing it. The mattress in the picture is torn.

Warped means that something has been deformed or damaged due to weather, temperature or force.

A wreck is a large, broken vehicle. There are places that collect car wrecks, for recycling the metal in them. The wreck in the picture is a shipwreck. Shipwrecks are usually under water, and people try and find shipwrecks hoping they have treasure inside.

A wrinkle is a fold in something soft that can be bent, like your skin or the fabric in clothing. Clothes often get wrinkled when they are washed, and then they need to be ironed. As people get older, they get wrinkles in their skin. The man in the picture has wrinkles around his eyes.
