A hippopotamus, or hippo for short, is a large animal that lives in lakes and waterways in Africa. They live in large groups, and can live to 40 years old. A male hippo is called a bull, a female is called a cow and a baby hippo is called a calf.
You hire something or someone when you pay some money for them for a time. People are generally hired to work for you or to complete a particular task. When you hire something, you hire it to use it for a while and then you return it to where you hired it from.
