A flapper is the term for a young woman in the 1920s who followed new fashions and enjoyed a more independent lifestyle. Flappers often wore short dresses, bobbed hair, and makeup. They were known for dancing, listening to jazz, and sometimes challenging older ideas about how women should behave. The flapper became a symbol of the social changes of the 1920s.
