A ligament is a strong band of fibrous connective tissue that joins one bone to another. They are usually found around a joint, such as the knee, ankle, or wrist. Ligaments help hold bones in the correct position while still allowing the joint to move. They are tough but can stretch a little. Ligaments are different to tendons, which connect muscles to bones.
