A metal detector is a tool that finds metal objects buried in the ground. It works by sending out a signal and listening for changes when metal is nearby.
You sometimes see people using a metal detector at the beach or in places people have been digging like construction sites or plowed fields, looking for coins, jewellery or other metal objects.
