An oil lamp is an old fashioned lamp that makes light by burning oil. It has a small container for the oil and a wick, usually made of cotton, that sits with one end in the oil and the other sticking out through a holder. The oil that has soaked into the wick burns to make light. Oil lamps were used for thousands of years before electric lighting.
