The petrel is a seabird with long, narrow wings and a pointed beak. It lives near the coast and spends much of its life flying and gliding above the sea. Petrels look distinctive because many species have a dark body and they often fly with quick, steady wingbeats. They feed by grabbing small fish and squid from the water's surface.
