A sedan is a passenger car with a fixed roof and a separate trunk for carrying luggage. It usually has four doors and two rows of seats, so it can carry several people comfortably.
The word sedan comes from "sedan chair", a covered seat carried by people. The chair was named after Sedan, a town in France. Unlike a hatchback, a sedan's trunk opens separately from the back window.
