A plaque is a flat plate or sign made of metal, stone, wood, or another hard material. A plaque may be put on a building or smaller structure to remember a person or an important event.

Memorial plaques are often made of bronze because it lasts a long time outdoors. The word comes from an old French word meaning a flat piece or plate.
