A banner is similar to a flag, usually being made from fabric and carrying some kind of message. Banners tend to be hung where a lot of people can see them.

A blackboard, or chalkboard, is a surface you can write on in chalk. Blackboards are usually used in classrooms or to write menus in restaurants.

A marquee is a protruding structure over a theater typically decorated in neon lights, which advertises a movie or play.

A noticeboard is a board where people put up written messages, pictures, and announcements. Noticeboards are usually found in places such as schools, offices, libraries, and community centres, where many people will see them. Notices may tell people about events, rules, meetings, lost items, goods for sale, or useful services.

A sign is something that conveys some kind of meaning. Signs might be made up of pictures, words, or a combination of both. Many signs are just symbols, so that people will recognize what they mean no matter what language they speak. Signs don't need to be painted on a board - for example, deaf people communicate with sign language, using their hands to make symbols.

A whiteboard is a smooth, white surface you can write on. Teachers use them to help explain things to their students, and people also use them to brainstorm ideas on.
