A siesta is a short sleep taken in the middle of the day, particularly by people in Spain or Latin America. A similar word to siesta is nap or snooze.

A sieve is very similar to both a sifter and a colander. They have a handle, and a bowl-shaped part made from fine metal or plastic mesh. Sieves can be used to remove lumps from powders, sprinkle powders like icing sugar over food, or strain the liquid out of something.

A sifter is a device designed to get any lumps out of powders like flour for cooking, or to mix different powders together. A sifter is very similar to a sieve but it has a handle on the side that turns some blades inside the sifter around to make the process of sifting the powders faster and easier.

Silence is the state of there being no noise. When it is very quiet you might say there is silence. You may also use silence in terms of nobody talking about something for some time. For example "The celebrity is back in the media after a time of silence".

Something is silent if it makes no sound at all. When there is no sound in an area, it is said to be in silence. Animals like cats have soft feet and can walk silently to sneak up on their prey.
