A photo of bread and butter pudding
Bread and butter pudding is a dessert made from slices of buttered bread and sultanas, with a sweet milk and egg custard poured over it and then baked until the custard sets. It has a soft, moist inside and a lightly browned top.

It originated in England and was traditionally made to use up stale bread. It is usually served warm, sometimes with cream, custard, or a sweet sauce.
