A custard tart is a sweet pastry with a crisp shell and a soft, smooth filling. The filling is made from custard - milk or cream, eggs, and sugar, then baked until set. It is often sprinkled with nutmeg.

Custard tarts have been made in Britain since at least the Middle Ages. Portuguese pastel de nata is a small regional version made with flaky pastry and a browned top.
