Something is hollow if is hard, but there is nothing inside. When you <a href="/k/knock">knock</a> on something hollow it makes a different noise to knocking on something <a href="/s/solid">solid</a>. Trees often become hollow if <a href="/t/termite">termites</a> eat the <a href="/c/center">center</a> of them away.
