Bis forBite

You bite something when you hold it in your mouth, between your teeth. You usually bite to break off a piece of something, like biting off a mouthful of an apple. The cat in the picture is biting the woman's nose. Insects like mosquitos that don't have mouths like ours can still bite you with their tongues.

Bis forBlare

Something blares if it makes a continuous, loud, and somewhat unpleasant noise. For example, "the loudspeaker was blaring music all day".

Bis forBleach

Bleach is a chemical that removes colors. It is often used when washing stained white linen, like sheets and tablecloths, and people often bleach their hair to a lighter color. Things will often bleach naturally from the action of sunlight, without chemical help. The word 'bleach' can be used as a verb, as in to bleach something.

Bis forBleed

You bleed when you lose blood from where it is supposed to be. When you cut yourself, you bleed. A bruise forms when you bleed inside, and the blood makes a dark patch under your skin.

Bis forBlend

You blend things together when you mix them so well you cannot tell what went into making the blend. The picture is of a fruit smoothie, which is made by blending lots of different fruits together.

Bis forBlink

You blink when you briefly close both of your eyes at the same time. You blink to keep your eyes wet with tears and to keep them clean. Quite often people blink when a camera flash goes off, so they look like they have their eyes closed in the photo.

Bis forBlow

Blow means to create a gust of air, like when the wind blows. The girl in the photo is blowing on a dandelion. Blow is also another word for hit, as in "he struck a blow to his opponent's face".

Bis forBlur

Something is blurry if the edges of it are indistinct and hard to make out. Things are not blurry by themselves, they are only seen to be blurry as you look at them. An unfocused camera will produce blurry photographs or movies. If you need glasses your vision will be blurry. Things that are moving very fast often appear to be blurry as they go past you.

You are boggled by something when it surprises and bewilders you.

You borrow something when you take it from someone else with their permission and return it to them when you have finished with it. People often borrow books from a library.
