Describing words, to help you tell someone else what something is like.

Tis forThin

Something is thin if there is a very short distance from one side of it to the other. For example, thin ice is ice that would not be strong enough to stand on. The bird in the picture has very thin legs. Another word for thin is skinny. The opposite of thin is fat or thick.

Tis forThird

Third comes after second, being the number three time something happens. You might come third place in a race, be third in line, or be like the little girl in the picture, having a third birthday party. See also thirds.

Tis forThirsty

You are thirsty when you need to have a drink. When you are thirsty your mouth gets dry and you may also get cracked lips and a headache if you go too long without drinking.
Something made out of fabric is threadbare if it is wearing so thin you can see the individual threads. It might even be getting some holes. The man in the picture has threadbare socks.

Tis forTight

Something is tight if it is stretched or pulled so it has very little room for movement. The opposite of tight is loose. The woman in the picture is wearing jeans that are too tight for her.

Something that is stored in a tin can is referred to as tinned. Usually only tinned foods are described this way.

Tis forTiny

Something is tiny if it is much, much smaller than something of its kind should normally be. The picture is of a tiny frog.

Tis forTorn

Something is torn if it has been damaged by ripping or tearing it. The mattress in the picture is torn.

Tis forTough

Tough is another word for strong. If something is tough, it can't be broken easily.

Tis forToxic

Toxic is another word for poisonous. If something is toxic, it is hazardous to your health or to the environment.
