Types of communication

Ways for people to communicate with each other.

Cis forCard

A greeting card is a piece of thick paper with a pretty picture on the front and a message inside. You give cards to people on special occasions, like their birthday, their wedding, or to someone you love on Valentine's day.
A conversation is when two or more people talk casually to each other. Conversations may be about anything, from the weather to a heated discussion about politics.

Dis forDiscuss

A discussion is a way for two or more people to talk to each other about something specific. People often discuss a problem as part of the process for finding a solution.
When two or more people are discussing something, they are having a discussion.

Dis forDraw

Drawing is a way of putting a picture you have in your head (or something you can see) onto a piece of paper, using your hands and a pen or pencil. Drawing is different to writing, as you are putting down a literal picture of what you are thinking about instead of writing the words to describe it letter-by-letter.

Eis forExplain

You explain something when you make something easy to understand, or say how to do it in easy steps. An explanation for something is a reason for it.

Gis forGraffiti

Graffiti is writing or drawing somewhere you are not allowed to write or draw. You usually find graffiti in train stations or anywhere there is a big empty wall. Some graffiti is just messy vandalism, but some can be very artistic. Graffiti is against the law in most countries and in some places you can go to prison if you are caught graffiting.
Hieroglyphics are an older form of writing made up of pictures. Each picture, or hieroglyph, can represent a concept (such as daytime or spring), a phonetic sound, or simply be a drawing of an object to be taken literally. Ancient hieroglyphs were like our alphabet today - not everyone could read or write in hieroglyphs, only those that were taught how to.

Iis forInstruct

You instruct someone when you tell them what to do in small, helpful steps. The man in the picture is instructing the woman. See also instructions.
An interview is a formal conversation, where one person (or a group of people) asks questions and the other person answers them. Interviews are typically something you go through to get a job, or if you are appearing on TV.
