Man-made devices, both manual devices and electrical appliances, past and present.

Wis forWatch

A watch is something you can use to tell the time on. Watches are small and usually have a strap on, so you can wear them around your wrist. Large watches that you hang on the wall are called clocks. It is useful to know the time, so you know when to go to school, or have dinner, or watch your favorite TV show.

Wis forWick

A wick is a piece of braided cotton cord that runs through the center of a candle. Wicks work by drawing melted candle wax up from the candle, and the melted wax burns in the wick. You have to light the wick with a match to start the process.

Wis forWinch

A winch is a device used for tightening a rope. They can be hand powered or powered by a motor. Winches can be used on a crane to lift things, to tow boats out of the water like the winch in the picture, or to tighten the rigging on a sailboat.
