A honk is the sound a goose makes, or a noise that sounds like a goose. Car horns are often described as going "honk".

A hoot is a sound an owl makes. Hooting is also used to describe similar sounds made by other animals, even people. For example "she hooted with laughter".

A hum is a continuous, low sound, like the background noise running machinery makes. You can hum yourself, by singing with your mouth closed.

A neigh is the noise a horse makes. Horses also snort and whinny, which is a similar noise to a neigh.

Noise is another word for any sound but is usually used to describe a loud sound, for example "the birds were making a lot of noise".
A peep is a small, soft, high-pitched sound that is made by baby birds.

Quack is the noise a duck makes.

A roar is a loud, scarey noise some large animals, like lions, tigers and bears make.

A scream is a loud, sharp noise that people make when they are suddenly scared or hurt. People sometimes scream in excitement too.

You shout, or yell, by raising your voice and being as loud as you can. People sometimes shout when they are angry, or when they are trying to get someone a long way away from them to hear them. Children sometimes shout when they are excited.

Sis forSilence

Silence is the state of there being no noise. When it is very quiet you might say there is silence.
You may also use silence in terms of nobody talking about something for some time. For example "The celebrity is back in the media after a time of silence".

You sing when you make music with your voice.
Many people singing together is called a chorus.

Sis forSizzle

Sizzling is the sound of cooking something in fat or oil at fairly high temperatures, like cooking bacon or sausages.

Sis forSlam

You slam a door when you shut it with a lot of force and make it close with a loud bang.

People often slam doors when they are angry, like the man in the picture.
