A buckle is a type of fastening usually used on leather belts and shoes. Buckles can be adjusted, as the prong part of the buckle fits through a hole, and you can have many holes on a strap.

A button is a small, usually flat object that you use to keep your clothes shut. Buttons can be made of wood, metal shell or plastic. There is usually some holes through the button or a loop under the button so they can be stitched to your clothes. You fasten a button by passing it through a matching hole.

A clasp is a small device used to hold things together. Clasps are usually made from metal, and are most often found on jewelry.
Holding your hands or someone else's hand in yours in a tight grip is also called clasping.

A lid is something that is used to keep a container of some sort closed. You see lids everywhere. Soda and soft drink bottles have lids, jars have lids, some boxes have lids, and even some furniture like trunks have lids.

Window shutters are like small doors that can be closed over a window. They can be used for security, for keeping out sunlight, or for keeping out the weather.

A stopper is anything that is used to keep a bottle sealed. Most bottle stoppers are made from cork or rubber.

Zis forZip

A zip is a device that keeps your clothes closed. It is made from two strips of tiny teeth and a slider that meshes the teeth together when you zip it up and unmeshes them when you unzip it.
Zips are found on many, many kinds of clothing. Before zippers were so popular, people used buttons to keep clothes closed.
