Parts of your body. Not all of these are human parts - people don't have tails and wings but they still qualify as body parts!

Lis forLoin

Your loin is the back side part of your body between your ribs and your hips. It is found on both the left and right sides of your body.

Your loin muscles can help you bend, twist, and stand up straight. In cooking, the meat from that part of an animal's body is called a loin of meat.

Lis forLap

Your lap is a place that only exists when you sit down. It is the place on the top of your thighs when you have your knees lifted up. The boy in the photo has a cat on his lap.
A lap is also a full circuit of something - for example, you may run a lap around the school oval.

Lis forLarynx

Larynx is the technical word for the voice box in your throat. It is part of the air way, and it helps you make sounds when you talk or sing.

The larynx has vocal cords that vibrate when you breathe out. It also helps protect your windpipe by closing when you swallow. The larynx is found in the front of the neck, between the mouth and the trachea. In some people, it makes a visible bump called the Adam's apple.

Lis forLeg

You have two legs, one on each side. You use them to stand on, and to run and jump. Your feet are at the ends of each of your legs.

Lis forLens

The lens is a small clear part inside your eye. It helps your eye focus on things you are looking at.

The lens changes shape to focus light onto the retina, which sends signals to your brain.

Lis forLimb

Limbs are your arms and legs. A bird's wings are called limbs, and large branches on a tree are also called limbs.

Lis forLip

Your lips are the pink or red areas around your mouth. You use your lips to talk and to kiss.
Your lower back is the body between the ribs and the hips. It is also called the lumbar area.

People often hurt their lower back by lifting things wrong, or by spending a lot of time sitting wrong. The man in the photo has a tattoo on his lower back.

Lis forLung

Your lungs are inside your chest, inside your rib cage. When you breathe in, they fill up with air.
Lymph nodes are small, bean-shaped parts of the body. They help your body fight germs and infections.

You can find lymph nodes in many places, like the neck, armpits, and groin. When your body is fighting sickness, they can swell and feel tender. Doctors may check them during an exam to learn about your health.
