Lights

Candles used to be the main source of light for people long ago before light bulbs and electricity were invented. Candles are made out of a piece of string, or wick, which is surrounded by wax.
When the candle is first lit you set the wick on fire but once the wick is burning it melts the wax, so after that first few moments the candle burns the wax not the wick.

A desk lamp is a small electric light made to sit on a desk or table. They often have an adjustable stem so you can shine light directly on where you are working.

A flashlight, sometimes called a torch, is a small device that has a handle at one end and a light at the other end. You use it for finding your way around somewhere dark that doesn't have any other light sources, like at night when you are camping, or if there is a power failure, or in a cave.

A lamp is a light that typically has a stand. Smaller lamps are usually put on small tables, and lamps with longer stands called floor lamps are put on the ground. Some lamps can be mounted to a wall.
Lamps are most often seen inside, for decoration or for using as a small light source to read by.

A lava lamp contains wax, water and a light which acts as heating element. As the lamp gets warm, the wax melts and starts to rise. As it rises it forms interesting shapes, which makes lava lamps fun to watch. Lava lamps come in all sorts of different colors, and the wax and water in them also come in different colors.

A lighthouse is a tower that is built on a dangerous, rocky coastline. A lighthouse has a bright light in the top of it so ships can see it from a long way away. Lighthouses were built so that ships would know not to go too close to a rocky shore, so they didn't crash. Lighthouses were also used to mark the entrance to a harbour so ships could find where they were going at night.

A night light is a small lamp that gives off a soft, gentle glow. They are usually used in children's bedrooms or hallways, to help children who might be scared of the dark, or to help people see enough to not bump into furniture and walls at night.

A ring light is a round electric lamp with a large gap in the middle. They are used to light a person's face evenly when they are making a video call or video recording.

A spotlight is a very bright light that creates a sharp, round patch of light. Spotlights are used to bring attention to someone on a stage.

A table lamp is a type of lamp that sits on a table, and is powered by a cord that plugs into a power outlet. They can be easily moved around if you want to put them in a new place.
