List of shapes

Most things in the world are made up of shapes, both two dimensional and three dimensional. Here are some of them.

Sis forSquare

A square is a shape with four sides of equal length. A rectangle is like a square that has been stretched out sideways so that two sides are longer. The building in the picture is covered in square windows.
A star is a shape you often see at Christmas time, as decorations on a Christmas tree. Stars are usually drawn with five or six points. You can also see stars on the flags of some countries, like the American flag.
A streak is a long, narrow band of something. A streak might be a dirty mark, a patch of color, or even a cloud formation.

Tis forTeardrop

A teardrop shape is the shape of a falling drop of water, like a tear falling from your eye. Teardrop shapes are often seen in jewellery.
A trapezium is a shape with four sides. Two of the sides are the same length and the other two are different lengths. A trapezium looks like a rectangle that has been pinched in at the top. The building in the picture seen from this angle looks like a trapezium.

Tis forTriangle

A triangle is a shape with three sides. The triangle in the picture is orange.

Tis forTube

A tube is a cylinder that is very long and round in cross section. Tubes may be stiff or bendy.

Tis forTuft

A tuft is a small bundle of something soft and fluffy, like hair, feathers or even fine grass. Tufts tend to be formed with one end of the tuft all in one place, and the other end of the tuft loosely spread out.

Wis forWad

A wad is a lump or ball of something. The kitten in the picture is playing with a wad of paper.

Wis forWedge

A wedge is a triangular shaped piece of something where one end is very pointy and the opposite side is flat. Wedges are designed to be driven into places by hitting the flat end so the point is driven into a gap. Wedges are commonly used for keeping doors open, or for driving into blocks of wood to help split them.
