Tools and things you need for sewing, knitting and other needlepoint crafts.

Sis forScissors

Scissors are a tool used for cutting very thin things like paper and cloth. Scissors for cutting cloth are a lot sharper than scissors for cutting paper.

Sis forSeam

A seam is a long line of stitches that holds two pieces of fabric together. You can easily see seams down the sides of a garment like jeans.

Sis forSew

You sew two things together by connecting them with stitches. You can sew clothing, mend things by sewing the hole up, or repair a wound or close a surgical cut with stitches too.
A sewing machine is a device, usually powered by an electric motor, that can sew much neater and straighter than you can by hand. Modern sewing machines have lots of different stitches built into them. Some sewing machines can even connect to a computer and stitch very intricate embroidery from pictures on the computer automatically.

Sis forSleeve

A sleeve is the part of a garment that covers your arm or part of your arm. Sleeves can be short, as on a t-shirt or so long they go past the end of your fingers.

Sis forStitch

Stitching is a way of connecting two pieces of fabric together with loops of thread. The thread is pulled through the fabric with a needle when you are sewing by hand, or done automatically with a sewing machine. A lot of stitches in a row makes a seam. Stitches can be placed to make a pattern, like the embroidery in the picture. Sometimes when you get a bad cut, your skin will be stitched back together to help it heal.

Tis forTapestry

A tapestry is a picture made from woven threads. Fabric that has been made by a machine to have a similar look to a hand-made tapestry can also be called a tapestry.

Tis forTassel

A tassel is a bundle of threads tied together so it looks nice. Tassels are usually made of silken threads, so they are shiny. Tassels can often be found on the bottom of curtains, or on the edges of cushions.

Tis forThimble

A thimble is something you use to cover the ends of your fingers or your thumb so you don't hurt yourself while you are sewing.

Tis forThread

Thread is a very thin, twisted string or cord used for sewing.
