C is for Compost

Compost is vegetable matter, rotted down so it can be used to fertilize and improve soil. You can make your own compost from lawn clippings, newspaper, food scraps and fallen leaves. Compost is best kept slightly moist, and turned regularly to aerate it. Worms in your compost will really help the composting process along, as the worms eat the food scraps and their castings become part of the compost.

C is for Computer

A computer is a device that lets you do many, many things. It is very likely you are reading this on a computer.
Computers are used for drawing, writing, playing games, making music and many many other things too.

C is for Concave

A surface is concave if it curves inwards, forming a hollow. The coin slot in the picture is concave.
The opposite of concave is convex.

C is for Concealed

Something is concealed if it is hidden or kept secret. The cat in the picture is concealed by the plants.

C is for Concentrate

You are concentrating on something if you are completely focussed on it, and have blocked out all other distractions. People usually concentrate when they are doing something complicated that requires them to think hard without being interrupted.

A group of things are concentric if they all have the same center. The circles in the picture all have the same central point. Any shape can be concentric - triangles, squares, or even three dimensional shapes like spheres.

A cone is a shape with a round bottom that gets smaller as it goes until it reaches a point. If you cut a slice through a cone parallel to the bottom, it will be the same shape as the bottom. If you cut a slice through the cone vertically going through the top point, you will get a triangle.
Many things are cone shaped. volcanos tend to be cone-shaped, pinecones and pine trees like the ones in the picture are cone-shaped, and of course traffic cones are cone shaped.

People use the word when they talk about people who look or sound like they are sure of themselves.

Conifers are a large group of plants, with around 630 species. They are mostly trees but some conifers are shrubs. Conifers typically have needle-like leaves and their seeds form in cones.
Some examples of conifers are pine trees, firs, cedars, cypresses, junipers and yews.
