List of action and motion words

Ways of moving around and things you can do with your body. Many of these overlap with the verbs category.

Tis forTrot

A trot is a gait of a horse where its legs move in opposite pairs. A trot is faster than a walk but slower than a canter or gallop. Other animals and people that run in a similar way to the way a horse trots are also said to be trotting.

Wis forWade

Wading is walking through water. Usually you wade through shallow water that is less than waist deep. Any deeper and it would be easier to swim.

Wis forWag

You wag or waggle something when you wave it backwards and forwards fairly fast. dogs wag their tails when they are happy. People sometimes wag their fingers to tell someone else off.

Wis forWait

Waiting is passing time until something happens. You often have to wait at a doctor's surgery, and sometimes you need to wait in a queue for something. People usually sit and read or just do nothing at all when they are waiting.

Wis forWalk

When you walk, you don't go very fast. You always have one foot on the ground. People normally walk around unless they are in a hurry, when they run.

Wis forWash

You wash something when it is dirty by rubbing it with soap and water until it is clean. Washing removes dirt, oil, grease and other stains from something that is dirty.
You wave by moving one or both hands backwards and forwards. People wave to say hello or goodbye, or just to get other people's attention.

Wis forWink

You wink when you briefly close one eye. If you wink at someone, it can mean that you like them in a sexual way. Men are most likely to wink at women. Winking at someone after you say something usually means you have some kind of hidden meaning in what you say, and that you are being somehow sneaky, misleading, or you were joking.

Wis forWobble

Something is wobbly if it can move around in an uneven way. Some things that wobble are jello, people learning to ride a bike and wobbly toys like in the picture.

Wis forWring

You wring something wet out if you twist it hard to get as much of the liquid out of it as possible.
