Sis forScared

You are scared or frightened when you are afraid of something. Children are often scared of big dogs or the dark. Many adults are scared of spiders. The boy in the picture is scared and hiding. Not to be confused with scarred.

Sis forScream

A scream is a loud, sharp noise that people make when they are suddenly scared or hurt. People sometimes scream in excitement too.

You feel shame when you know you have done something wrong, and you feel guilty and sad.

Sis forShy

You are shy if you are feeling nervous or uncomfortable when you are with other people. A shy person may want to stay quiet or not speak first. People are often shy when they are new to a place, or when meeting strangers.

Sis forSmile

You smile when you are happy. When you smile, the corners of your mouth point upwards, and sometimes your smile gets so big your teeth show, just like the girl in the picture.

Sis forSmirk

A smirk is a smile that is smug and slightly offensive. People often smirk at you when they think they know better than you do.

Sis forSmug

Someone is smug if they are very confident of their ability to do something, but at the same time are calm and complacent about it, as if they can do it very easily.

Sis forSob

Sobbing is crying with deep, shuddering breaths.

Sis forSolumn

Solumn is another word for serious. The opposite of solumn is silly.

Sis forSorry

You are sorry when you have done something that makes you feel bad. You say you are sorry by apologising.
