Words about words

An animal or a person is shorn if they had all their hair, fur or wool removed. A person whose job is to shear animals is called a shearer.

Something has been shot, if it was damaged by someone shooting at it. The glass in the picture has been shot, and has a bullet hole in it.
Shot is the past tense of shoot.

Something is shredded if it has been cut into small pieces. Usually the pieces are strips that are longer than they are wide. People shred vegetables to make salads, and they shred paper so that noone can read what was written on it.
The person who took the picture does not have a very good shredder, as some of his paper shreddings are very readable.

A shrug is an action where you raise your shoulders up. Shrugging is a way of saying "I don't know".

You are shy if you are feeling nervous or uncomfortable when you are with other people. A shy person may want to stay quiet or not speak first. People are often shy when they are new to a place, or when meeting strangers.

Signed is the past tense of sign, but usually meaning signing your name as a signature. For example, "I signed for the parcel" or "I have a signed warrant".

If you're being silly, you're acting funny or foolish instead of being serious.

Something is simple if it doesn't have a lot of elaborate parts, or is very easy to understand. The picture is of a very simple flower arrangement.
The opposite of simple might be elaborate, complicated or difficult.

If you are sinister you are frightening, threatening or intimidating.

The house in the picture is sinister.

Sipped is the past tense of sip.
