Cis forCinnamon

Scientific name: cinnamomum aromaticum
Cinnamon is made from the bark of a small tree native to Sri Lanka. The smell and taste comes from an oil that the plant makes. Cinnamon is usually sold as a powder in shops, and is simply the bark of the tree ground into powder. Cinnamon is used in a lot of cooking, mostly in sweet desserts like chocolate dishes, apple pie and many cakes and cookies. Cinnamon is used with sugar on cinnamon donuts.
Clarified butter is butter that has had the milk solids removed.

Cis forCloves

Scientific name: syzygium aromaticum
Cloves are the dried flower of a large evergreen tree native to Indonesia and India. They are used whole or ground up in baking, for making cakes, puddings and a lot of Mexican and Indian food. Cloves are very strong, and you don't need much of them to flavour food. Clove oil can be used to stop sore teeth from hurting.

Cis forCockle

Scientific name: family: cardiidae
Cockles are related to clams, mussels and snails. They have a shell in two parts joined by a hinge. Cockles burrow into sandy beaches and eat tiny creatures in the water that washes over them. Cockles can be caught and eaten. They are cooked in much the same way as other similar creatures like mussels.

Cis forCocktail

A cocktail is an alcoholic drink with two or more ingredients. At least one of the ingredients is a strong, highly alcoholic beverage, and cocktails often contain 'mixers' like lemonade or fruit juice. Cocktails are seen as a 'fun' drink and are often brightly coloured, and can be served in glasses decorated with pieces of fruit, small umbrellas or, as in the picture, herbs like mint leaves. Different mixes of cocktails are often given interesting (and sometimes embarrassing) names.

Cis forCocoa

Cocoa, or hot chocolate is a drink made from hot milk, sugar and cocoa powder, which is also an ingredient of chocolate. Hot chocolate is a sweet, warming drink and is delicious with cream on top.

Cis forCoconut

Scientific name: cocos nucifera
The coconut is the fruit of the coconut palm. Coconut palms grow in tropical areas of the world along beaches. They like warm weather, regular rain and high humidity, which is why they grow well in the tropics. You eat the flesh inside the coconut fruit, but there are many, many uses for the rest of the coconut palm. There are too many to list here, but they include: making rope and doormats from the outer shell of the nut; making bowls from the inner shell; and building houses from the trunk and branches of the palm tree. Coconut is used in many different ways in a wide variety of foods. One you might recognise is simply dried, grated, and stuck to the outside of a lamington!

Cis forCoffee

Coffee is a drink made from the dried, roasted beans of the coffee plant. It is one of the most popular drinks in the world. Coffee can be served hot or cold, with or without milk, cream or sugar, and in any size cup or mug. Coffee can also be used to flavour cakes, candy and chocolate.

Cis forCola

Cola is a kind of sweet, fizzy drink that is either made from or tastes like the kola nut. The most popular brands of cola are Coca-Cola, commonly called Coke, and Pepsi.

Cis forCookie

A cookie is a sweet, baked food. Cookies are usually round and baked until they are crisp, and come in lots of different flavours. They are usually made with flour, sugar, butter and eggs and possibly spices, chocolate, nuts or dried fruit. In some countries, cookies are called biscuits. If you think a biscuit is completely different to a cookie, you would probably consider a biscuit a kind of scone.
